Since Aik Saath commenced working in Junior Schools (September 2004) we have trained over one hundred pupils, including the Playground Buddies and Helping Hands of Godolphin Junior School, the Peer Trainers of Montem Primary School and the Playground Pals of Lea Junior School. These four groups have all been given the skills to resolve conflicts between other children in the playground and classroom. (continued below)

The work that these children have volunteered to do requires both courage and dedication. By bringing them all together, we hoped that they would feel even more supported than they were previously. Furthermore, by bringing them together we were able to provide them with training from a nationally recognised theatre-based training organisation: The BigFoot Theatre Company.

The pupils attending Take Action, were also given a refresher course by Aik Saath. Our peer-led approach to conflict resolution means that this particular part of the day was delivered by young role-models who previously attended these primary schools.

The conference was primarily funded from the proceeds of a FennerFest event- a local festival named after the famous pacifist Slough MP Fenner Brockway and run by local organisation Slough4Peace. The conference is also funded by Slough Borough Council.

The evaluations completed by the pupils were overwhelmingly positive. Of the 100 attendees, 80 handed-in their evaluations and 79 indicated that they had enjoyed the day, the training and the games.
