Training

The peer education trainers are given training in skills in conflict resolution, confidence building, presentations, public speaking, race awareness and facilitating discussion. This is usually held during school holidays over one or two days.

Refresher training days are also held during the year, which give the group a chance to get up to date with their training material and delivery skills.

“Through my time at Aik Saath I have also learned about how people understand culture and conflict and how people can interpret people’s behaviour.”

Manminder Purewal, Age 17, Conflict Resolution Peer Trainer

Residentials

Once a year we run a residential for the team over the course of a weekend in which they take part in in-depth training on conflict resolution and any other training that the young people identify as necessary for them to be as effective as possible in delivering their training, or which they feel will help with their personal development, this has included religious and race awareness workshops.

The residential is held at a different location every year outside of Slough and is facilitated by the project leaders and external trainers, and on occasion ex-members of the group are invited to facilitate sessions on conflict resolution and therefore building on the theme of peer education.

“From the residential I learned many things. It was my first residential with Aik Saath and I gained many skills and met many new people. I also got to know the group better and the training we did helped me out a lot with the school training. All in all it was a good experience”
