Slough Community Relations Partnership Slough Community Relations Partnership was launched on 22nd October 2004. Following a major incident of racially aggravated assault on a young person, Slough Race Equality Council convened a meeting of different organisations based in Slough, to tackle the issue. The meeting was a great success and inspired the creation of Slough Community Relations Partnership. It now incorporates Aik Saath, Slough Race Equality Council, Thames Valley Police, the Pakistan Welfare Association, the Sikh Community Action Network, Slough Services for Young People, Slough Youth Council, Slough West Indian People’s Enterprise, Alma Supported Lodgings, Slough Borough Council’s Under Sixteen and Asylum Team and Slough Youth Offending Team. The partnership brings together these partners to promote a more cohesive local community while monitoring and evaluating racially motivated abuses against young people, primarily by other young people. The partnership also allows those involved to come up with timely and constructive responses, to any such incidents.
Aik Saath is managing the organisation of Slough Community Relations Partnership Film Festival on behalf of SCRP and all its partners. To read more about the launch of SCRP, please click here. Slough Community Relations Partnership Slough is made up of a diverse range of communities and has an increasing range of new communities that are settling in Slough. Over the past two years Slough has experienced a slight deterioration in community relations. One incident in particular that raised concerns took place in Burnham involving two groups of young people. Concern from community members and agencies brought together relevant parties to discuss a potential resolution. This meeting was very positive and highlighted the productive nature of this type of endeavour. Therefore to consolidate these links and to continue to seek positive resolutions to any future incidents it was proposed that we formalise this group and it was unanimously agreed. The group is called Slough Community Relations Partnership (SCRP). Slough Community Relations Partnership Film Festival The aim of this type of film festival is to help to educate and explore each other's communities. This will help to create a greater awareness of those that live in Slough, dispelling myths and stereotypes with the aim of increasing the level of community cohesion that exists in Slough. Film festivals have a long history of facilitating dialogue at different levels of society and it is hoped that this festival will perform a similar funtion for Slough. Film is an ideal medium for communication across perceived boundaries of race, culture and gender- this festival is an attempt to harness that medium.
