I joined Aik Saath because amazing people who volunteered for Aik Saath convinced me that it was the best place to invest my time and energy and as a result I’d be even more amazing. Who wouldn’t want to know Aik Saath when they make you shine?
It seems every moment at Aik Saath is so great, I couldn’t choose one particular ‘favourite’ moment! I would have to say helping out in the office with the staff and a few other volunteers with music, jokes, and a real family feel is one of my favourite experiences - something I look forward to every week. You know Aik Saath has a place in your heart when you sit, cutting paper, not wanting to be anywhere else but there.
Through being at Aik Saath, I’ve improved my presentation and communication skills; I’ve tried things I’d never normally have tried such as singing with primary school children!; I’ve fundraised, which has helped me to start something and see it through; my confidence has been boosted by being with like-minded people who encourage you to share your ideas; I’ve gained great friends; but most importantly, I’ve found something I’m incredibly passionate about as it’s given me hope in humanity and the future.
Aik Saath opens so many doors for you – helping you to do the things you love, do the things you find challenging, helping you to find connections, to build your CV, but most importantly it’s a supportive environment that allows you to shine. Aik Saath was something I couldn’t stop talking about at my university interviews and as a result I got all 4 offers to study medicine!
I want people to know that there is a way to change the world – by smiling at one another and spreading the love.
Aik Saath is a youth-led community charity focussing on community cohesion. To me, Aik Saath is my self-esteem and support network.
Aik Saath has been an important part in my life over the last two years. Having gone away to university, I miss my role within Aik Saath. Yet I am reassured that there will always be a place for me there. Aik Saath to me means being around good souls who want the best for me and for others, which in turn makes my soul a little bit good too.
